Builder and lighting designer
I have built four detached houses for my family and renovated several properties over two decades. In those projects I have also been involved in the electrical work, so I can follow what an electrical plan means for the lighting.
I have worked with LED lighting for more than 15 years. It started with my own houses – when you buy a thousand metres of strip for your first house, you learn quickly what works and what does not. Today LedStore has produced more than a thousand lighting plans and manufactured tens of thousands of metres of made-to-measure LED strip.
I wrote the lighting design book Lighting Design in Practice – available on Kindle and in paperback. I also developed LightingDesigner.io, a browser-based lighting design tool.
This site exists because during my own builds there was no single source that gave the right dimensions for indirect lighting enclosures. Now there is.

Where the information comes from
The dimensions and recommendations on this site are not copied from manufacturer brochures. They come from three sources:
- Completed projects. Box depths, lip heights and strip powers have been measured and proven in my own houses and in LedStore customer projects. When a page says a light cove works at 50 mm depth, it has been built.
- Product technical data. Profile dimensions, strip power, luminous flux and colour rendering values come from LedStore product cards, which are based on manufacturer data.
- Standards and calculation. Illuminance levels for workplaces follow EN 12464-1. The light quantity calculations are written out so that you can check them yourself.
When something is a rule of thumb rather than a measured value, the page says so. For glare shields, for example, the site states plainly that the final check is made by sitting on the sofa before the boards go up.
Who maintains the site
IndirectLight.eu is a knowledge base maintained by Lamppukauppa Led Store Oy. The product cards and links lead to the LedStore online shop, and that is stated openly. The construction dimensions, sizing principles and advice on avoiding mistakes apply regardless of where you buy your products.
Why a shop maintains a knowledge base
Most failed indirect lighting installations fail because of the construction, not the product: a lip that is too low, a driver plastered in, the wrong strip in a shallow profile. When the construction is right the first time, the customer is happy – and that is the best outcome for the shop too.
Updates and corrections
Pages are updated when products, recommendations or standards change. The last-modified date of each page is visible to search engines and in the sitemap.
